Benjamin shared the story behind Psilomethoxin and how this unique compound came into our spiritual path. Many in our community have asked how it began, how it is made, and why it feels different from other medicines. This conversation offered a clear and heartfelt look at its origins.
A Journey Rooted in Curiosity, Service, and Spirit
Benjamin opened by thanking everyone who has walked with the Church and reminded us of our intention to offer education, community, and access to practices that bring us closer to our spirit. This same intention is what led to the rediscovery of Psilomethoxin.
Psilocybe mushrooms naturally transform tryptophan, which is an essential amino acid, into psilocin and psilocybin through a beautiful process guided by enzymes. Scientists have known this for decades. What remained mostly untouched was the possibility that mushrooms could take in other tryptamines and create something new.
The Science That Sparked a New Path
In the 1980s, scientist Joachim Gartz found that mushrooms could absorb added tryptamines and convert them into new, more bioavailable compounds. His work showed that these living organisms could collaborate with additional molecules to create something different from what they normally produce.
Years later, psychedelic researcher Sasha Shulgin shared a belief that if mushrooms were grown with 5-MeO-DMT, they might create a compound known as Psilomethoxin. The idea remained quiet for a long time due to cultural and legal pressures, but the seed was planted.
A Modern Reawakening
Around 2020, a sincere question emerged. How can we offer a gentler and more accessible way for people, especially veterans, to experience the healing potential of 5-MeO-DMT in a stable, low dose, and oral form? This question led to the exploration of adding 5-MeO-DMT to the substrate of Psilocybe mushrooms. Following the path that Gartz established, something remarkable happened.
The mushrooms produced an entirely unique expression. The experience felt different from traditional psilocybin. Clearer. More stable. More grounded. More heart centered. People who were very familiar with these medicines immediately recognized that something new had arrived.
This began the long, careful process of sharing the medicine with experienced practitioners, healers, and community members. Over time, with humility and deep listening, it became clear that Psilomethoxin had a role to play in spiritual practice and emotional healing.
Becoming Part of Our Spiritual Tradition
In 2022, the Church of the Sacred Synthesis chose to bring Psilomethoxin forward as a sacrament. The focus was, and still is, microdosing. The compound supports clarity, emotional balance, and spiritual openness without the visual or sensory distortions that psilocybin often brings. It encourages presence instead of overwhelming. It invites integration instead of confusion. It offers space for the spirit to rise.
Today, Psilomethoxin continues to support members on their path of reconnection and healing. Our intention is simple. We want to offer a medicine that helps you return to yourself. We want to create containers that allow you to explore your spirit gently and with support. And we want to honor the lineage of all those who came before us, from early scientists to ancient medicine keepers who listened to the wisdom of the natural world.
An Invitation Forward
As Benjamin closed, he reminded us that this journey is still unfolding. We continue to host Conclaves every week and ceremonies each month to help you explore the sacred nature of your own spirit.
If you feel called to experience Psilomethoxin or to deepen your relationship with the Church, we invite you to join us.
You are welcome in this community.
You are welcome in this work.
You are welcome on this path of remembering.
